I'd kill for some Red Stripe or Killians right about now. I moved from North Dakota a couple years back and they aren't sold anywhere near where I live now.

Funny thing is, at a bar down the street from my house, they have a House Tap that they've relabeled. It's one of their biggest sellers (probably not hurt by it being a dollar cheaper than the others). It's not bad. I'm friends with the owner, so I tried for a month to guess what it is. Most of their beers, both tap and bottle/can are local or regional. It wasn't my favorite of the others, but it was definitely something drinkable. I even said that I know what it was because I know I had it before, which got a laugh. Early on, I even said it tasted like PBR, but I didn't guess that because I thought it was also a local. Turns out, PBR is bottled right down the road from where the owner grew up. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people pick that beer over others. "Cheap and yummy," as they put it.

I'm in middle Tennessee and work over the Kentucky line. I am smack in the middle of bourbon country. My office does quite a bit of fund-raisers that include hand-selected bottles from one of the local distilleries. Last year, I got a special bottle of Woodford Reserve. This year is the 25th anniversary of Operation Gothic Serpent in Mogadishu (re: Blackhawk Down), so we're doing bottles of Jack Daniels Select to honor our two helicopters that were shot down. I got one for each.

@Kindbud Absolutely. Bookers is always a go to, even for a short age bourbon. Their Rye was unreal, very good finish, but that's expected for a 12+ year. Shots of it were $200 at a local bar, but worth every penny, in my opinion.

Jack and I don't get along at all except in a Coke or soda, but to me that defeats the purpose of good alcohol when there are plenty that are decent with just an ice cube to open them up. I don't think anyone would order a Bookers and Coke without getting raised eyebrows and head shakes at most places.

If you can find that Colkegan up there, buy it. It's really an American Scotch, minus the sherry casks and, well, Scotland...lol. They smoke the barley over mesquite and it comes through, but subtly.

The older I've gotten, the more I've realized that good booze is worth paying for. And it's absolutely NOT for mixing.

I've made it very clear to my kids that if they get into my liquor cabinet, I'll fuss at them for doing it. But if they try to hide it by adding water to the bottle, I'll beat them. Not for covering up, but for ruining good booze.

There's a great Oklahoma brewed IPA that is amazing. Try a COOP F5 if you ever get the chance!
